Why a TY80 site?
As a motorcycle mad kid in 1974 one of my favorite pastimes was to ride my dragster down to the local Yamaha bike shop to check out the bikes. The four different model minicycles that Yamaha offered appeared to meet the needs of any kid at the time. With the TY80A, GT80A, GTMX80A and the YZ80A, Yamaha had all the bases covered to fulfill the riding dreams of any kid no matter what discipline of dirt biking they were interested in.
At the time I wanted a YZ80A as I wanted to be a moto-crosser, but I remember just loving the look of the TY80. To this day I still believe they are one of the best looking bikes around.
For Christmas that year I was given a Honda Z50A .........Disappointed? yes and no, while I did not get the YZ I wanted, I had a bike!
I continued riding and racing Dirt Bikes for the next fourty years, during that time I always harboured a fondness for the little TYs.
So when the opportunity presented itself a few years back to get hold of a TY80 I finally fulfilled a childhood dream!
I have developed this site in the hope that other TY80 enthusiasts may find these pages bring back fond memories from their own childhoods.
And to also hopefully become a valuable resource for anyone restoring one.
Hope you enjoy the site.
Regards Mark
My Brochure page contains not just TY80 brochures but all the Yamaha Minicycle range from 74/75. Hope you enjoy.
